Seattle Post Intelligencer have reportedly received confirmation that Goalkeeper Kasey Keller will the player unveiled at the Thursday afternoon press conference scheduled by Seattle Sounders FC. The 36 year old goalkeeper, who is a Washington native, will return to the US after leaving in 1989 after a short stint with the Portland Timbers. Keller has had a long successful career in Europe complete with stops in England, Spain and Germany, and has earned 102 caps for the United States National Team. Kasey most recently played for BPL side Fulham, making 13 appearances in less than a year with the London club. Keller will be Seattle’s second player, after Sebastian Le Toux, who currently plays for the USL Seattle Sounders, signed a contract with Seattle and MLS. What do you think of the acquisition? At a press conference at Qwest Field, the Seattle Sounders FC announced their three year television deal for the clubs upcoming inaugural season in Major League Soccer. The deal will see King-5(or Kong 6/16), broadcast every Seattle Sounders FC match, both home and away. Seattle also announced that Kevin Calabro will be the clubs play-by-play announced. Calabro was the former “voice of the Seattle Sonics”, winning several Emmy awards during 21 years broadcasting. Calabro is a well known announcer, throughout Seattle and although he admitted he had to learn a bit more about Soccer, but was excited about the opportunity. This seems like yet another great decision by the Seattle Sounder FC front office, making the clubs games available on a free television channel, with a well known voice calling each game.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the software company will be sponsoring the expansion franchise’s jersey sponsor. The deal is reported to be roughly $4 million per season for 5 years, quite impressive for MLS. The 2009 Seattle Sounders FC jersey will feature “Xbox 360 Live” on the front of the jersey’s. Seattle has officially signed their first player, Sebastien Le Toux to an MLS contract beginning next year. Le Toux is a 24 year old French striker, who joined the USL-1 Seattle Sounders from FC Lorient in 2007. The striker is the first player signed by Seattle in the build up to their inaugural season.
