According to SBI, our very own Hunter Freeman has been traded to Toronto FC in exchange for two supplemental draft picks and future considerations. Freeman has fallen out of favor with head coach Juan Carlos Osorio after signing a pre-contract with Norwegian side IK Start. Freeman’s MLS contract expires December 31st, and should provide Toronto FC with some needed depth for the rest of the season. What do you make of the Freeman trade? Good for TFC? Good for New York? Commissioner Don Garber revealed that MLS has reached an agreement with Brian McBride, during Thursday nights All Star game. The details will be announced tomorrow afternoon by MLS. The deal took longer than expected because Toronto FC had the first claim to McBride’s rights and negotiations with Chicago Fire, who McBride wants to join, had stalled. It appears MLS have successfully stepped in and reached an agreement and the details will be released tomorrow. 16 year old Abdus Ibrahim had been traded to Toronto FC for a conditional draft pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. Ibrahim was considered a top prospect in MLS by many, after being acquired by FC Dallas in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft. Originally from Ethiopia, Ibrahim has been capped at the US U-20 level. Ibrahim has family in Toronto, as was interested in making the move from Dallas. The young forward/midfielder had been away on personal leave, and was reported unsettled at FC Dallas. FC Dallas get Toronto’s first or second selection in the 2010 draft, as well as 50% of any transfer, should Ibrahim be sold to an overseas club.
Aftering being waived in April, defender Tyler Hemming has rejoined Toronto FC, signing a developmental contract. A developmental spot was available after Jarrod Smith’s promotion to the senior roster. After being waived by TFC, Hemming went on trial at Swedish club Hammarby IF, and upon his return was contracted by Toronto FC. The 23 year old defender/midfielder wad drafted by TFC, 40th overall in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. Hemming is a canadian citizen, and has been capped for the U-23 team. What do you think?
